Curriculum

For children who are registered in kindergarten at regular school.

German language will be taught in a fun filled environment using songs, plays and crafts.

Children do not need any German knowledge  to be accepted in this program.

 

Kindergarten

Grade 1 to grade 6 (children are 6-12 years old).

We’re following an approved curriculum set by the Canadian Association of German Language Schools. The school uses current teaching material for German as a Second Language provided by the German Government.

At the end of Grade 6 students receive the “Deutsches Sprachdiplom Mittelstufe” (CAGLS) after writing a successful exam.

German 10, 20, 30 (for students in Senior High )

We’re following the curriculum set by Alberta Learning .

Students receive 5 credits for each course. Provincial midterm and final exam will be administered

This three-course sequence is designed to develop German language and cultural proficiency and a global perspective. Students become proficient in using German effectively and competently and applying their knowledge of the language in a variety of situations for a variety of purposes. They acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be effective global citizens and strategies to maximize the effectiveness of learning and communicating.

Students are eligible to take this course according to the Alberta Learning Guide to Education

German A1   Oct. 03/06 – Dec. 05/06   Fee  $150 + Book (no GST)

                              10 Tuesdays  6 – 8:30 pm (25 hours)

 

This course is designed for students with no previous knowledge of German as  a Second Language. This Course is structured into three topics – getting to know each other, meeting people, and shopping/money. You are practicing pronunciation, counting numbers, asking questions, verb forms in the present tense and sentence structure through various exercises and activities.

 

 

German A2   Feb. 06/07 – Apr.17/07   Fee $150 + Book (no GST)

                              10 Tuesdays 6 – 8:30 pm (25 hours)

 

This course is designed for students who have mastered German A1 or have some equivalent German knowledge. This course is structured into three topics – telling time, shopping/cooking, and dining out. You are practicing asking and telling time,   separable prefix verbs, imperative forms, and modal verbs. You will be able to apply your knowledge in a variety of activities and exercises.

 

 

German A3   Oct. 03/06 – Dec.05/06   Fee $150 + Book (no GST)

                              10 Tuesdays 6 – 8:30 pm (25 hours)

 

This course is designed for students with previous German knowledge and/or students who mastered  German A2. This course is structured into three topics – getting around, sightseeing, working in Germany, and health and fitness. You will be able to ask for directions, know professions and working everyday situations, and being at a doctors appointment. You practice prepositions in the datives, modal verbs, telephone conversation and interviews through various exercises.

 

 

German A4     Feb.06/07 – Apr.17/07   Fee 150 + Book (no GST)

                               10 Tuesdays 6 – 8:30 pm (25hours)

 

This course is designed for students with an intermediate level of German. Prerequisite German A3 or equivalent. The course is structured into three topics – around the house, what happened?, and this looks good on me!  Students are introduced to the past tense, perfect, dative and accusative, comparative forms etc.

You practice German through various exercises and activities.   

 

 Book can be purchased for $45.- and covers all four courses.

Sprachdiplom 1, 2

Zentrale Deutschprüfung

After completing German 30 and another 200 hours of language instructions the students have the opportunity to take “Das Deutsche Sprachdiplom  1” set by the German Government. This diploma will allow students to continue their studies at a German college if they choose.

After another 200 more hours of hours of language instructions the students have the opportunity to take “Das Deutsche Sprachdiplom 2” set by the German Government. This is a requirement to be accepted at a German university.

The German Language School Society of Edmonton is the only approved school to administer these exams in Alberta.

At the end of German 30 students have the opportunity to take an exam set by the German Government. After completing approx. 900 hours of language instruction in previous programs, the successful candidates receives the Zentrale Deutschprüfung Diploma which is officially recognized in Europe.
